Fresh from the Field: Asparagus Season Has Arrived at Simmons Family Farm
There's something exciting about the first real harvest of the season-and this week, it's asparagus .
After the cold and windy April we experienced here in Rhode Island, seeing those fresh green spears pushing through the soil feels like the official start to our farm season. We've been out in the field picking this week and have weighed and bundled the spears into one pound bundles .
Fresh-picked asparagus is one of those seasonal treats that just tastes so different when it comes straight from the farm . Tender, crisp and packed with flavor, it barely needs anything additional to make it shine. Roasted with olive oil and sea salt, toss it on the grill, shave it into salads, or add it to pasta, quiche or spring soups .
And because the season is so short, we're making the most of it .
