Planting Through a Tough Spring
The stretch of weather over the last few weeks on Aquidneck Island has not been ideal . Wet soil, soggy fields, chilly nights and the constant winds have made even the easiest of tasks more of a challenge .But this is the reality of early spring farming in New England and when it comes to growing field flowers locally in Rhode Island -timing matters.
Over the last week, we've planted over 600 lisianthus plugs. These flowers are beautiful and worth the effort to plant them weeks before our last frost . Their long vase life makes them a favorite for fresh-cut flower bouquets in Rhode Island .
We've added kale and mixed greens to our early spring plantings . Look for them in the revamped farm store in May .
